Merry Christmas

To all those who check in to this blog from time to time, with love from the Holdsworths.

We need Him (Some thoughts on Christmas Eve Eve)

One of my favourite superhero quotes is "I hear everything. You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one." - Superman in Superman Returns (2006)

Some people say that if bad things happen there is no God. But, bad things happening is exactly the reason there needs to be a God. Someone to redress the balance. There needs to be hope, light and good amidst defeat, darkness and evil.

As Christmas approaches for Christians it is a good time to re-acknowledge both our need as broken and fallen people who sin and our hope in the child born in a manger. Such a humble beginning for the King of Kings. Years after the stable birth His death would be brutal yet redemptive, His resurrection triumphant and hope giving. Soon His return will prove both inevitable and welcome. He is our hope. Blessed be His name.

Pilgrims Wood

I've been thinking of ways to incorporate nature and the beauty of it into my writing. Something I discovered recently while looking for something to help my babies sleep was a TV series along the lines of slow TV. Calm music plays and films of nature come on screen. One episode featured some woodlands in Autumn. As some may know that is my favourite season. It sparked an idea for a story that I may give the working title 'Pilgrims Wood'. I'm thinking it will feature a character who passes away in the wood like the fading leaves. He returns to the earth as seasons change, his soul assends and there is of course hope of resurrection. As it is still thoughts I won't say much more. I hope to delve a bit deeper into a descriptive writing style and maybe also incorporate a "Pilgrims Progress style" of writing. Maybe. Just brain storming. Watch this space. Thanks.
